No Ordinary Egg

I had another night of bad sleep Sunday night. Why is it that kids don't receive some sort of 'vibe' about that and sleep in for you? Sigh.

They both got up at their usual early time of just after 7am. I was not ready to rise to the land of the living. I'm still fighting the 'goo' and the lack of a good night's rest made for a please-let-me-sleep-a-little-while-longer morning. No dice.

I got up and settled the kids, with their pop-tarts and juice, in front of the idiot box watching Clifford the Big Red Dog...because that's just the kind of supermom I am.

I was headed back to my bedroom. I fully intended to crawl back in my bed to rest a little longer.

Suddenly, Ella decided she needed to go potty. She set off in a sprint toward the bathroom. She tried to fly past me down the hall...blam! Blam? Yes, blam. That's the scientific name of the sound made when a nearly 4 year old child's head smacks into the corner of a wall.

She dropped to the ground, holding her little nugget. I carried her to the bathroom, told her I was going to sit her on the potty and then inspect her head. Oh.My.Goodness. I believe those were my exact words. From the time she hit to the maybe 15 seconds it took for me to get my first glimpse of the damage, she developed one heck of a goose egg. Seriously, it was the size of one of those gumballs you pay a quarter for. It looked like it could just pop...shivers.

My poor girl. All I knew to do was hold her, cry with her and call her daddy at work. I have always heard that if you can see the swelling, it's a good thing. The fact that she had an instant egg was indeed a good thing...but it wasn't pretty. We put a cold pack on it, snuggled on the couch...and let's not forget the ibuprofen.

Currently, the knot is not completely gone and an area the size of a lemon is a beautiful shade of purple. That's one of her favorite colors. Maybe that's the bright side. I don't know.

In all other aspects, Ella appears to be fine.

The wall could use some spackle.

Mom could use a Tylenol PM.

its amazing how hard they can hit their little heads and be fine. If I were to hit MY head that hard or even half that hard and get a lump half that size, I would be needing more than my mommy. hehe. I swear, they always get hurt when you are needing just a bit more down time yourself. Brings you back to the "supermom" mode real quick. Take care.

Yes, take tylenol PM! It works and you don't feel all hungover in the morning, either. good stuff.

Poor Baby!
I'm so sorry for your morning.
Just curious, how long did you wait till you snapped her picture? :)
You could have both climbed up in bed after that one.
I have sympathy pain for you right now.

Oh.My.Goodness! That is some egg! Those goose eggs always amaze me, how big they get and how bad they look. Luckily they look way worse than they really are. Poor baby! Hope she is okay now.

Have a good afternoon Tina - see you later. Kellan

Poor Ella! Bless her heart...I mean, her head. ;) I hope it's looking better by now.

My little Thomas has a knack of whacking his head in that same spot. He arrived here on Sunday with a knot and bruise right there. Makes me want to find him a helmet!

Awww! That's one big knot she has there! I am dreading Emmerson doing all that. And I know what you mean when all you knew to do was hold her and cry with her. I did the same thing when Emmerson ran smack into our entertainment center and got a bloody nose. I felt sooo badly for her! BUT..the good thing is that kids always bounce back with no problem at all.

♥ OUCH! Lane has done that a couple of times. It always amazes me how quick the goose egg appears!

Your children are beautiful! Bless your little girl and her bump! Advil PM-one tablet every night-works wonders for this busy mom. I dream less, I'm rested when I wake up...well, at least after I've had my first cup of coffee!!
