Smoking is NOT Acceptable!

We go by our new house several times a week to check the progress.

This week, we've found:

- Garage doors

- Tile in the upstairs bathrooms

- Tub in the Master bathroom

- Tile in the Master bathroom

- Cigarette butts in the Master bedroom floor

I about hit the fan!!

My level of unhappiness was written ALL over my face.

How disrespectful???!!!

You are being PAID to WORK in my HOME...and you think it's appropriate to smoke in my house, dump your butts on the floor...and all of this when the ceilings and walls are completely finished?!? Come on!

IF the house was still only studs, I MIGHT not bark so much...but I'm not kidding. I walked into the house and smelled it immediately. And the windows were shut...trapping this wretched smell in MY house.

Our realtor happened to be with us Monday when we found this issue and she said that I had every right to complain and ask for this action to stop. So I did. I contacted the builder's rep via email to voice my displeasure.

Tuesday morning, I drove by the house for just a second. The General Contractor, who was standing in a neighbor's yard yapping, hauled himself down to my house when he saw me drive by. He wanted to discuss another issue...but before I left his presence I made sure that he knew that Smoking in my house was not acceptable and he should see that it does not happen again.

He said 'I'll see what I can do,' which sounds like a complete blow off...but when we went by Wednesday...here's what we found...

It's posted on the front door...we walked right by it without noticing it...but it's there. And since the guys now have to have a key to get into the house, hopefully they will have to stand at the door long enough to notice the sign.

I saw no traces of smoking...I can only hope that they obey so that my brand new house won't smell like an ash tray. Blech.

I would be so upset if that was happening in my house too!!!! That smell is so hard to get out. Looks like you are getting closer to being done :)

You should make the seller add a clause to your contract- if your house smells like smoke- you don't have to buy the house...

I love the whole "I'll see what I can do." I would have said, "No, you'll stop it!" People are so disrespectful.

Nasty!
But it's better than finding a used condom in a closet.
(not that I know anyone that happened to ;)
I'm just sayin'!

i would have hit the ceiling too. smokers just think we're being hypersensitive, but they don't/can't smell it for themselves.
but for a non-smoker, it's. nasty. period.

good for you for sticking up for yourself!!

Ooohhh!!! Super Blech!!! You were completely justified in being upset. Perhaps if the walls were not finished you could have used a fire extinquisher on them!
