This was NOT on my 'Bucket List'

I had my first wreck on Saturday.

Given the situation, it couldn't have gone better.

My best friend and I were driving down a two lane road I had never driven before. I came upon a mailman (woman) making deliveries. I decided I would pass this vehicle. After waiting behind her at one mailbox because we were on a hill making it unclear if I could safely pass, I followed her to the next mailbox. When she moved forward again, I assumed she was headed to the next driveway about 40ft away. I was looking again to see if I had a clear pass when I heard "Whoa Whoa Whoa!" via Debbie.

What I didn't know about the mailman's next stop was that it was only 4ft away, not 40ft. I was looking for a clear shot, she was stopping right in front of me for the much-closer next mailbox.

WHAM!

Oh boy.

I just rear-ended a mailman.

Everyone was ok.

The mail was quite disshoveled.

Her bumper was shoved in and down.

My passenger side headlight was busted out. My bumper and grill were cracked.

But, our bodies were intact.

Praise God!

I apologized over and over.

The first officer that arrived immediately cracked jokes with us once he saw that everyone was ok. The next two officers were just as great to us. I really don't believe I could've had better help from the 'men' in blue. My other really big helper...Debbie. Oh my. I'm so glad she was with me instead of my children. She handled all the phone calls that needed to be made and was the perfect support I needed for the whole ordeal. I'm so blessed to have her as my bff!!

I did, and still do, feel like a complete idiot. I can't believe I did this...but since everyone is ok, and the van is driveable and not too terribly hideous, all will be ok. Said van just rolled over 190k miles...I will just deal with a cracked bumper for however much longer it lasts. The 'stupid tax' I'll be paying on this one isn't nearly as bad as it could've been.

By the way, I got a ticket for improper passing. Debbie got a 'ticket' for aggravated 'whoa whoa whoa'.

So today I ask you, will you share something that cost you a 'stupid tax'?

I am glad no one was hurt!
I backed into a parked car at a restaurant, when I was in high school. It did no damage but I wanted to do the right thing, so I went into the restaurant and asked each table if they drove the described car because I hit them. Talk about embarrassing......not only did the people whom I hit know but the whole restaurant knew before I found the right people.
I think I would have rather hit a mail truck.

Other than my millions of speeding tickets (that are usually around 5 miles over). BTW.....I was almost arrested for that "whoa whoa whoa". LOL!

I hate that when we make silly mistakes, my van has the imprint of a trailer hitch in the front bumper......

Did I ever tell you about the time Shawn wrecked BOTH of our cars AT THE SAME TIME? He hit mine with his.

♥ I'm glad it wasn't anything major... I'm surprised they gave you a ticket... I kind of don't get that? Yay your van is okay (mostly) too! I miss mine! :)

I must admit that when I came upon the accident my first thought was "someone hit a mailman?!" Glad you guys were okay and not too much damage was incurred.

I backed into someone at church because I was in a hurry.......it was his company's car!
I will probably have another story at the end of today!
