...or at least we should be! I'm talking about University of Memphis Men's Basketball.
I've been to more games (2!) this year than I've been to in the past 4 years, or so. I really love going to sporting events. When we were in college, we went to every home game we could, and we always sat in the loud, obnoxious student section. We had so much fun!!
There was a guy there that everyone calls 'Big Dave'. He always sat in the first front row seat of the student section.
We've been out of school for almost eight years...and Big Dave is still sitting in that seat (albeit in a new arena). How does he do it?? Does he enroll in one class every semester just to qualify as a student so he can get that seat? Does he pass those classes? How many degrees does he have?!?! Or, does he work for the University? I need to interview Big Dave!
I guess that's one way to get a good season ticket seat!!
I consider Donald and I to be somewhat spontaneous. Unplanned things come up from time to time, and usually, we're game. We got a call from our friend Steve yesterday morning. He said he had tickets to the U of M game for that night and we could have them if we wanted them. Well, yea!!! It was a late game, but we decided that we'd take the kids anyway...Steve's seats are the most child-friendly seats we've ever occupied.
We had a great time with our two happy, cheering children. Both of them turned to all the people around us and said 'Go Tigers!!' There was a great crowd, Best Buy gave away a 42" Plasma TV and one lady did a wild little dance/stunt to win a dinner. Wonder if it's on YouTube? It really was so much fun...and those Tigers...they handed Southern Miss a nice beating, 83-47! The Tigers are now 17-0 (with a 42-game win streak at home!). By the end of the game, the whole crowd was chanting:
"We're #1! We're #1! We're #1!"
Maybe. We are currently ranked #2, but with our win and North Carolina's loss, we should be voted #1. There is some speculation that Kansas could leapfrog us and take #1...say it ain't so!!
We'll know tomorrow morning. For now...
Way to go Tigers!!
A big, fat thank you to Steve and Shannon for staying home on their couch while we used their tickets last night!!!

I'm waiting until tomorrow to make a post very similar to this. *g* I don't trust those doing the voting to claim the number 1 spot before the poll comes out. Memphis often gets so little respect from the outside world that it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Kansas leapfrogged over us.
But I hope not!! That #1 spot is going to be sweet! :)
Fun times!! I'm glad you got to take your kids. Even though they may not remember it for long, you will.
WOW - that sounds like a great time and I'm so glad you got to go and had so much fun! I love that your kids went too and got to see all the hoopla and their parents enjoying themselves so much! Good luck to your team and I'll see you soon. Kellan
I miss the Tiger games. When I was in college I went to every single game (I was in the pep band) and I made it to at least a few every season since, but I moved away this past summer. :(
Glad to find another Tiger fan! (found you from Anew & Afresh)
