Gifting, Gifting, Gifting...

...what about Re-Gifting???

You've done it.

Haven't you?

Sure you have.

I have.

Nothing big, though.

I once got a hideous ornament at some ornament swap thingamajig. It was never going to make it's way onto my tree...so the next white elephant/ornament exchange thing I went to, yep, it was in a gift bag for someone who might think my trash was a treasure.

And baby gifts. Lots of times, when you have a new baby, you find yourself swimming in lotions and powders and receiving blankets. Do you know why? Because everyone holds on to those items and passes them on to the next new mommy they come across. I'm certain that I've given away packaged onesies that I received as gifts. A new mommy doesn't have the time or energy to return smaller items...they can be used...even if it is as someone else's gift. (when your child skips from 0-3M clothes to 6-9M...you are bound to have some 3-6M goodies that weren't used...just telling it like it was)

My son just turned three and I still had baby stuff around here. So I re-gifted...Of course, I didn't present these things to the mommy-to-be at a baby shower...she lives out of state, so I shipped them. She knew these things weren't new. I told her that I had stuff leftover and baby clothes that must go...it was a win-win situation. And yet, still a gift to her.

Nothing sentimental. Nothing expensive. Nothing that someone poured a lot of thought into.

Baby stuff and an ornament from an exchange. I'm fairly certain that those are the only things I've ever re-gifted.

And I'm fairly certain that I've been on the receiving end a few times.

What about you?

Hmm... I think I regifted some of the kids books. They get so many from book fairs, birthdays, Christmas, etc that I'm PURDY sure they made their way into someone elses hands.

Ornaments... I dont think I've ever re-gift ornaments. My tree is pretty gaudy so any ornament that walks through my door gets front and center. :)

I certainly DO re-gift!!! Why not? I mean, if the gift is in perfect condition and it's not something I need... then why not pass it on? I'd rather someone else enjoy it, if I'm not going to!

I see no problem with regifting. I do so when it is a nice gift that we just don't need or have more than one. Now, if it is truly ugly or "trash"---then I trash it! Why pass something on you hated and you are pretty sure noone else will love? I love giving gifts I think people will really enjoy....I hate getting gifts that I can tell the person regifted and it completely does NOT represent who I am. I am like COME ON -- put trash where it belongs!!!!! On another note...I think moms should all agree to exchange toys for Christmas...our kids don't need "New" toys...new to them is just as exciting...especially when they are little.

I got a western style chili set with a chili pot and chili bowls that wasn't really my style so I regifted it to the person whose name I drew in secret santa at work that year who totally loved it because it fit her style. So do I feel bad about it? No, because I didn't love it and would've never used it and she did.

my cousin regifted a wedding present to my sister and forgot to take the card out. This was just over 20 years ago when it was more tacky back then. And actually I am going to find something around here thats never been opened for our family (my parents side) 5$ gift exchange because everyone brings such crapy I always try to get my own gift back, so I could have saved that money in the first place. hehe and really its a form of recycling and thats all good in these days.

♥ I don't think it's a big deal at all! As long I don't forget who gave it to me... :)

LOL, Tina!!

I've totally done that too! I'm sure it was something like a picture frame or some kind of lotion/soap/bathwash combo!! Haha..why not? Someone else might love it and use it!!

I have to admit, I have re-gifted! Mostly things like picture frames and cake plates and things. All things I liked receiving, but got duplicates of!

I can honestly say I've never regifted. Not because I think I'm above it...not at all.
I have, however received a regift as a wedding gift, where the regifter left the card the original giver put in the box! "Best Wishes to Kim and David"....David being my third cousin and Kim being his wife. Smooth move David and Kim!

My mom got a candle once as a gift that had already been burnt-the gift was really the laughter we got about it.

Another friend was at a wedding and someone had regifted a silver tray only to miss that is was engraved.

One of my favorite gifts was a bag full of new clothes for our newborn from a friend whose daughter never got to them. It was AWESOME!
(BTW-McFurr told me to check out your blog-fun!)
