We'd Like To Interrupt Your Sunday Afternoon...

...for some very important (to us) breaking news!

First, let me apologize in advance. I realize that you have probably just eaten lunch, so have I, but this post is about poop...sort of. So I'm sorry.

Evan has had a MAJOR breakthrough in the last few days.

Rewind to Friday.

I believe Evan stinkied 3 times...of course, in a diaper...and while I was taking care of the last one, I suddenly remembered what a wise friend told me the weekend before.

"If you've told him to use the potty and you can see that he understands, but is choosing not to anyway, he is disobeying and there is cause for discipline."

Or something like that.

So. I really sort of lost it with Evan. I told him that he was disobeying Mom everytime he pottied in a diaper. That the only way he could make this right was to use the potty.

And there was a little 'hands-on persuasion' aka discipline.

I think a light bulb went off in his head.

I told him that I would not put a diaper back on him (and I chunked the one I had in my hand across the room).

I told him that he would wear underwear and that if he wet them, he'd be in trouble.

That was at about 4:30pm on Friday. From that point on, HE would say 'Gotta go potty' and take off running for the potty. You must understand...he had NEVER said these words and gone by himself. He would go only when I took him, but he had never initated the act.

Wow. Every 15 or 20 minutes, he took himself to the potty.

No accidents!

He slept in a pull-up and wet it, but I'm ok with that.

Saturday, he did great until we weren't at home. We took him out in underwear, but he wet those while we were at the Y. We changed his clothes and told him he couldn't do that. He then stayed dry.

We went to a ball game Saturday night, but we let him wear a pull-up...for our convenience. He did ok...a little wet, but not bad

Oh...and there was no poop yesterday at all...so we knew it was coming.

At church this morning, we tried to get him to poop before we took him to class...not happening.

We were told that he peeped four times...he did well. Great!

We went to lunch. Came home. The pull-up was dry. Fantastic!!

Now, where is the poop that you MUST be holding, Mr. Poop-Three-Times-A-Day!??!

Daddy set him on the potty right before naptime. I asked him to talk to him about pooping again.

VOILA!!!

We got poop!!!

We did CRAZY happy dances...isn't it amazing what a little poop can bring out in people??

We are VERY PROUD of Mr. Evan!!!

We're a little leery of sending him to church/school in underwear...at least this soon...but we will be in underwear at home, except for sleepy times.

And...he'll be picking out some new seat covers at Walmart after church tonight.

YAY EVAN!!!

Back to your regularly schedule afternoon.

Way to go, Evan!
But way to go, Tina, for listening to sage advice. Whenever I am stumped, I know I can go to her. She has such creative ideas.
Well, until they turn into teens...

I had to threaten my second son like that to get him to stop pooping in his undies. Worked like a charm!

YEAH for poop!

Gosh, I remember that transitional phase!!! It's so hard, but once they "get it"..it's soooo nice to not have to buy diapers anymore!!

I am so happy for you both! I am getting ready to introduce Gracie to the potty for real. I have been a little lazy, just waiting, but I think it is time to see what she'll do.

Tell him I'm so proud of him, and BIG hugs to you momma!

Your pocketbook just got a bit thicker from money you are going to save!

♥ I love that all my kids are potty trained and no more diapers. I never had any luck getting them to do it until they were almost 3 or 3... 3 kids in diapers for 2 years was insane. Not counting the 1 year for just the twins. I thought I was in heaven when the twins potty trained and then I just had Liv in diapers now it's so great!

I'd be doing happy dances too! :)

YAY Evan!!! I know that you've been waiting for that moment to come for a loooooooong time. I know you're so excited and can't wait to be completely out of diapers!

I decided that I'm going to wait until Emmerson turns two to try to reintroduce her to the potty...unless she asks before then.
